Iomega is still maintaing its postion on the removable drive ladder by introducing its new 2gig Jaz drive. With a Jaz drive you can store large files in your pocket and run them at hard drive speed right off the cartidge. The original Jaz Drive has become somewhat of a standard for graphics and multimedia markets which require a large-capacity removable drive. The cartidges cost $149 each and are sold in quantities of three, making the cost equilalent to a comparable sized new hard drive. The drive itself is another $549 (internal), $649 (external) which makes it a lot more expensive than a fixed drive or tape backup. You can use the Jaz drive to backup your hard drive but it costs nearly 5 times as much. Unless you are in the graphics business you would probably be better off going with the original 1gig Jaz drive, which is much less expensive, or waiting until the price drops down a little.
